The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has laid down the law by serving cease-and-desist orders to four online casinos accused of illegally servicing the state's gamblers. According to a recent report, the targeted entities are Betty Wins, Orbit Spins, Pacific Spins Casino, and Yabby Casino, all connected to Tech Zone, Inc., based offshore in the Union of Comoros.
The crackdown is part of MGCB's broader strategy to actively safeguard Michigan residents from unregulated online betting environments. "These offshore operators lure players with flashy ads and promises of big winnings, but in reality, they put consumers at serious financial and personal risk," MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams explained. He added that the agency would aggressively continue to enforce against unlicensed sites, according to a release by the MGCB.
Michigan legislation mandates that only MGCB-licensed operators can provide internet gaming and sports betting within its borders. The four cited casino brands were operating in violation of the state’s gaming laws. The illicit nature of these gambling sites means they're devoid of fair play assurances and do not offer adequate recourse for consumer disputes, exposing players to potential risks such as fraud and identity theft.
The MGCB is taking enforcement action while also focusing on public education. Through its "Play It Smart, Michigan" campaign, the Board is working to raise awareness about the legal aspects of online gambling. The campaign provides a list of licensed operators on its website and includes a “Legal vs. Illegal Gaming” page with guidance on identifying unlicensed platforms and avoiding scams. The Board emphasizes that some illegal operators may use familiar branding or social media advertising to appear legitimate, and encourages players to verify a site’s license status before placing bets, as per report by the MGCB.
