Milwaukee Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs is set to be honored with the 2025 Creative Community Champion Award from Create Wisconsin tomorrow at the League of Wisconsin Municipalities Annual Conference, held at the Baird Center. The accolade, as per the City of Milwaukee announcement, recognizes Coggs for her "outstanding advocacy and support of arts and cultural investment, engagement and access for all Milwaukeeans."
Speaking to her accomplishments, Coggs, who also chairs the City of Milwaukee Arts Board, stated she is "humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award from Create Wisconsin." Her commitment to fostering a vibrant cultural atmosphere in Milwaukee has not only aimed to fully embrace the city's artistic diversity but also to ensure that every resident has the chance to actively participate in the arts. Create Wisconsin Board President Carolyn Nelson-Kavajecz described Coggs as an "outstanding advocate" for the local arts scene, who tirelessly works to "honor the voices and visions of artists who contribute to the city's cultural richness and authentic sense of place."
The Creative Community Champion Awards, a partnership initiative between Create Wisconsin and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, seeks to annually honor civic leaders and communities that consider creativity crucial to their economic, educational, and social fabric. Since 2009, such champions have ranged from individuals to organizations, businesses, and local government bodies, all celebrated for their contributions to Wisconsin's creative vitality, as per the City of Milwaukee.
