An incident occurred in Milwaukie, leaving one woman dead and another hospitalized following an overnight crash. The incident took place yesterday around 10:22 p.m. when Austin Jones, 26, was reportedly driving under the influence, leading to a fatal collision at the intersection of Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard and Southeast Milport Street. KGW reports the driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI and disobeying a traffic signal.
In the wake of the crash, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deployed its Crash Reconstruction Team (CRAFT) to analyze the scene. Hospital staff confirmed the fatality, withholding the victim's identity until her family is notified. Preliminary findings by CRAFT suggest that Jones' Chrysler ran a red light and collided with an Infiniti. According to a statement obtained by KATU, authorities believe that speed and intoxicants were factors in the crash.
Following his discharge from the hospital, Jones faced serious legal repercussions. He has been booked into Clackamas County Jail, charged with first-degree manslaughter and reckless driving. KPTV notes that "police say additional charges are under investigation," reflecting the gravity of the situation and ongoing inquiries into Jones's actions leading to the fatal incident.
