A sudden change in fortune struck for one Missouri resident, who claimed a historic lottery jackpot this week. Missouri Lottery officials confirmed that the "homebody" claimed his prize in Jefferson City and revealed, during an announcement on Monday, details about the winsome event that took place on Sept. 6. The lucky ticket holder pocketed a staggering $1.787 billion, making it the largest win in the state's history, according to KSDK.
The winner opted for a one-time lump sum payout of $410.3 million, before taxes, rather than the $893.5 million annuity spread over 30 years. This monumental jackpot was the result of matching all six numbers drawn, and the success story began at a QuikTrip located in north St. Louis County. Notably, the winning ticket from QuikTrip resulted in a $50,000 bonus for the store, as reported by Fox2Now.
Although the winner's name was not made public, he shared some of his plans and reactions to his newfound wealth. "I’m a millionaire, a multi-millionaire, and I’m doing laundry last night...," he reflected, indicating the surreal nature of his win. Expressing a preference for a low-key lifestyle, he stated, "I’m going to just do me for a year" and acknowledged his wife's likely plans to shake things up a bit. "She’s going to drag me out of town now," he admitted in a statement obtained by First Alert 4.
The sharing of his prize with another ticket sold in Texas complete, the Missouri winner is said, to be reveling in his unexpected windfall. The experience, which still has him wrapping his head around the concept of such wealth, has included many sleepless nights. It's a problem he welcomes though, and he confides that the essence of his perfect day remains simple: "sitting at home doing what I do – relaxing," Fox2Now reported.
