The Modesto Police Department, in a recent dissemination of evidence surrounding an officer-involved shooting earlier this August, has provided new insights into the tense altercation that culminated in the apprehension of 19-year-old Jadon Sieng and the wounding of an officer. Through a released video, the department showcased the critical moments leading up to Sieng's eventual capture, including graphic content and the sequence of interactions with Officer Jesus Padilla, who sustained a leg injury during the incident.
At about 1 a.m. on August 8, along the 1200 block of Boulder Avenue, the patrol responded to a shooting, and there, Officer Padilla encountered Sieng in a vehicle believed to be connected to the disturbance, as noted by Hoodline. During the confrontation, Padilla was struck by Sieng's car, and it was then that Padilla discharged his firearm, injuring Sieng in the arm. Sieng persisted in his attempt to elude capture and eventually crashed his car near the Highway 99 on-ramp at Hatch Road, according to a statement obtained by ABC10.
The event timeline notes that after the crash, Sieng attempted to escape on foot before being detained by a Stanislaus County sheriff’s sergeant, following which a loaded handgun was located in his vehicle. Sieng, after receiving medical treatment for the arm injury, was booked on substantial accusations, which include attempted murder of a police officer, felony domestic violence, and several additional charges encompassing attempted homicide, shooting at an occupied dwelling, criminal threats, and weapons violations.
The investigation into the altercation continues, with authorities cautioning that the footage released may contain distressing scenes.
