Monroe Police successfully tracked and arrested Vitalii Gutorka, a suspect wanted for car theft and a hit-and-run incident after a K-9 unit rapidly concluded a chase. Gutorka, 29, tried to evade the officers, but K9 Bolo proved to be instrumental in his capture on Saturday, as per WSOC-TV. Officers located him near Wolfpond Road and Hillside Drive after he initially fled from a home on Sunnybrook Drive.
Further details emerged, revealing that Gutorka was the driver of a stolen vehicle from Stanly County, which was found at the residence he escaped from. According to information from WBTV, police had been attempting to apprehend him at the house but he "slipped away" before they could manage to apprehend him. At the time, however, it wasn't immediately clear why officers originally had warrants for his arrest.
Following the chase, Gutorka sustained minor injuries from the K-9's engagement and received treatment at Atrium Union Hospital. He was then transferred to the Union County Detention Center and remains in custody. His charges are extensive, including larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and charges related to the hit-and-run incident among others as stated by WCNC.
The efforts of Monroe Police Department's officers and K9 Bolo received commendation for their diligence. The department heralded that the officers "stayed focus, followed leads and safely brought Gutorka into custody enhancing the safety of our community," as reported by WCNC.
