Residents of Montgomery County can breathe a little easier as the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) has identified the individual who sparked heightened security measures at St. Patrick’s Church. Last Monday, a report came in about a man decked out in a dark ensemble, snapping pictures of the church structures, including the doors that allow entry and exit, raising eyebrows and concerns amongst the community members.

Following the alert from a churchgoer, MCPD officers from the 4th District hustled into action. Teaming with the department's Behavioral Assessment and Analysis Unit, they kicked off a probe to pick apart the intentions of the mysterious photographer, according to a statement obtained by the MCPD's press release.

The individual, wearing black gloves and a motive unclear, was placed into focus by Wednesday, cooperative with investigators. The MCPD has conveyed that, at this juncture, they've encountered no signs pointing to an illegal act or a looming threat hanging over the heads of county residents. This comes as a sigh of relief for the locals following the initial disconcerting reports.

Policing with a purpose, officers of the 4th District have not loosened their grip on vigilance, though, continuing to mark their territory around the church and other sensitive spots—like faith institutions, schools—nurturing their liaison on security matters with the community. "MCPD reminds residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity by calling 911 in an emergency or 301-279-8000 in a non-emergency," the department emphasized, in hopes that such collaboration can cultivate a safer environment for all.
