Authorities in Montgomery County are invoking the community's assistance after a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run took place on Tuesday. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU), has been spearheading the investigation, as they work to uncover clues surrounding the tragedy that claimed the life of a 52-year-old woman in Wheaton.
As reported by the Montgomery County Department of Police press release, the incident occurred near the intersection of eastbound Veirs Mill Road and Ennalls Avenue at approximately 7:27 p.m. According to the release, responding officers and Fire Rescue personnel located the victim in the roadway, having suffered critical injuries inflicted by an unidentified vehicle, which failed to remain at the scene.
The victim, whose identity is being withheld until proper notification of the next of kin, was urgently transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Current investigative leads have helped Montgomery County detectives discern that the suspect's vehicle might be a silver Audi, model years 2009 through 2012, within the A4 or S4 series. Evidence points to significant damage: a shattered windshield, a defective right front fog light assembly, a potentially hanging left front headlight, and a missing passenger side fog light assembly.
CRU detectives, in a bid to proceed with the case, are appealing to the public for help in identifying and locating the suspect vehicle. They urge anyone who might have relevant information to reach out and assist in the ongoing pursuit of justice. "Anyone with information about this collision or the involved Audi is urged to call CRU at (240) 773-6620," implores the police press release. It's also made clear that individuals who come forward with information have the option to remain anonymous by calling 1-866-411-TIPS.
