A fatal collision in Provo claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Monday evening after an impactful encounter with a van. The incident occurred around 6:35 p.m. while the van was making a left turn on University Avenue to 1200 South, as detailed by KSL. Emergency services promptly transported the motorcyclist to the hospital; however, the injuries proved fatal upon arrival.
Preliminary investigations into the crash by law enforcement led to a DUI investigation of the van's driver, identified as 45-year-old Brandy Ann Barnes, who sustained minor injuries. The mishap led to a partial shutdown of the southbound lanes during the peak traffic hours, as reported by KUTV. Despite not undergoing field sobriety tests at the scene, Barnes consented to a urine test and blood draw subsequently.
FOX 13 obtained further details revealing that Barnes's urine test returned positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines. Upon their wait at the hospital, officers received multiple admissions from Barnes confessing to the act of drinking and driving.
