
Early Sunday morning, August 31, a fatal motorcycle collision occurred on I-10 West at the Don Haskins Drive exit ramp, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist. The El Paso Police Department is investigating the events leading up to the accident that took place around 2:30 a.m., as reported by Officer Adrian Cisneros via the El Paso Times. The collision caused a significant shutdown of the freeway, with westbound lanes closed for over 12 hours, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The crash involved the motorcycle and at least one other vehicle. Although the full details of the incident have not been disclosed, preliminary information obtained by KTSM indicates that the motorcyclist, identified as Alejandro Rodriguez, was rear-ended by another vehicle, which caused him to be ejected from his bike. Rodriguez, who was on his way to work at the El Paso International Airport, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the impact.
Following the crash, the KFOX14/CBS4 team reported seeing a white vehicle surrounded by crews upon their return to the scene around 9:10 a.m. The El Paso Police Department had not released further information on the cause of the crash or any additional injuries involved at the time. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, with suggestions to exit at Eastlake Boulevard as noted by KFOX14/CBS4.
