
An Arlington Heights community is left mourning after a 16-year-old Mount Prospect boy was killed in a collision while operating an electric bike. The accident occurred Monday evening at the intersection of South Reuter Drive and West Grove Street, as informed by ABC7 Chicago. Tragically, the young boy succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Lutheran General Hospital following the crash.
Details from the ABC7 Chicago report state that the teen appeared to be riding at high speed and did not stop at a posted sign. Subsequently, he struck the rear door of a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The time stamp of the crash was around 7:28 p.m. Police noted that the victim was quickly transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The fatality was further confirmed by the Arlington Heights Police Department, which noted the teenager was riding northbound on Reuter Drive and collided with the vehicle around 7:30 p.m. after failing to adhere to a stop sign. As per details obtained by FOX32 Chicago, the boy, who was not wearing a helmet, impacted the truck at an estimated speed of 30 to 40 mph.
The aftermath of the collision had Grove Street closed for several hours, allowing traffic crash investigators and forensic technicians to to systematically collect evidence. The driver of the pickup truck, who was not injured in the crash, showed no signs of impairment at the time of the incident, police said. While an investigation is ongoing, authorities announced they will not release the teenager's name until the family is further notified.
