Commuters on Interstate 15 experienced significant delays yesterday, particularly in two separate areas in Lindon and South Salt Lake. Following multiple accidents, including one that injured three people, the northbound lanes of I-15 were closed, causing extensive traffic disruptions.
According to FOX 13, the chain of events in Lindon began when a dump truck lost a rear tire at approximately 9:15 a.m. This tire struck two other vehicles, leading to a lengthy shutdown near 200 South. In South Salt Lake, an accident near 2900 South closed the entire northbound side, but officials managed to reopen lanes about 20 minutes later, although the road was not expected to fully reopen until 7:45 a.m., as reported by KUTV.
The events in Lindon escalated as traffic slowed down to allow authorities to investigate the scene with the dump truck. Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden shared with KSL, "At about 11:30 a.m., a passenger car stopped and was rear-ended by a semi-truck, pushing it into other cars." In total, five vehicles were involved in this subsequent crash. The accidents prompted a substantial response from emergency services, which worked to clear the vehicles and manage the congestion.
It took several hours for the lanes in Lindon to be cleared and reopened, with traffic returning to normal in the afternoon. The impact of the accidents was felt by many, as I-15 is one of the crucial veins for Utah's transportation network.
