A Multnomah County man has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for involving minors in drug trafficking. Olaf Lamont Johnson, 57, was convicted of using a minor in a drug offense and illegally delivering the opioid fentanyl as part of a commercial drug operation. The sentence was given on Tuesday by Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Adele Ridenour, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Jesse Hoffman, who prosecuted the case, said Johnson’s actions posed a serious threat to the community. Hoffman stated, "Fentanyl devastates lives, families, and communities, but it does not hurt people on its own. It takes drug dealers like Mr. Johnson to sell this poison for profit." Johnson was accused of using minors in the drug operation. "Mr. Johnson used children to try to deliver that poison." The judge’s sentence reflects the community’s concern about the risks of such drug activity, as reported by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
In January 2024, Portland Police set up a drug sting after a fatal overdose. Johnson was found in a Tahoe SUV with a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl. The boy was armed, and Johnson had 100 pills that tested positive for fentanyl, along with packaging materials for selling them. The case was handled by Detective Mike Jones and the Portland Police Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit, as stated by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
