Last night's routine traffic stop for a simple taillight violation on Mt. Juliet Rd near I-40 turned into a significant find for local law enforcement. Mt. Juliet Police reported that their officers pulled over a 29-year-old Nashville man, only to discover his not-so-small portfolio of violent criminal history – including previous charges like Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Burglary.

During the interaction with the police, the driver, throwing the keys into nearby woods, tried in vain to keep the officers from searching his car. Despite the attempt, law enforcement officials managed to unlock the vehicle and conduct the probable cause search, unearthing a stolen handgun in the driver’s door pocket. This same firearm was reported stolen out of Lebanon on April 20, 2019.

Consequently, the man was taken into custody under multiple charges, including driving on a suspended license, possession of a stolen firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Mt. Juliet Police did not take lightly to the serious nature of these infractions. Their official social media account detailed the arrest and later praised the officers for their keen vigilance in taking "another stolen gun, in possession of a violent felon," off the street and thus enhancing the safety of their community.

As outlined by the police, this incident serves as a reminder of the constant dangers and potential for escalation that traffic stops can present. Despite the simplicity of the initial violation, a routine check transformed into the removal of a potential threat from the streets.
