Concerns for public health have escalated as Chetak LLC expanded their recall of the Deep brand frozen vegetables and fruits in light of a recent salmonella outbreak. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating the uptick in illnesses, with 11 known cases and four resulting in hospitalization across 10 states, as reported by USA Today.
The expanded recall now encompasses a broad range of products including the Deep-brand Premium Select Frozen SURTI UNDHIU MIX, and a variety of sprouted beans and mixed fruits and vegetables. States with known sicknesses include Connecticut, Florida, and Illinois among others. Residents in possession of the products in question are urged to either dispose of them or return them to their point of purchase, according to information provided by the PIX11 News.
Consumers are advised to clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the potentially contaminated food with hot, soapy water. The FDA has listed symptoms of salmonella poisoning to include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, advising those affected to consult healthcare professionals. Salmonella's serious symptoms, notably high fevers and prolonged diarrhea, can pose a greater risk for vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.
Chetak LLC has halted production to investigate the source of the contamination issue. A comprehensive list of recalled products and their specific lot codes have been made available to consumers, in effort to prevent further cases of illness.
