In what reads like a scene straight out of a crime drama, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office took to social media to report an attempted robbery at a legal cannabis farm in Grass Valley.
On Monday morning, armed suspects tried to force their way into the farm, setting off alarms and sending the property owners into a rightful panic. Thankfully, no harm came to those inside as the perpetrators scattered at the sound of the farm's defenses. According to the Sheriff's Office post, responding deputies picked up the chase on Highway 49 only to be led on a dangerous pursuit as the suspects fled, blowing through traffic controls without a second's hesitation.
It was Placer County Sheriff's Office deputies that eventually spotted the fleeing vehicles on Interstate 80. With the help of Roseville Police Department, two suspects were detained after a high-risk vehicle stop. The suspects, identified as Santana Sanchez-Ortiz, 21, and Zakaria Homran, 19, both from Oakland, were found with a cache of burglary tools. Sanchez-Ortiz and Homran now face multiple felony charges, including attempted robbery and participation in a criminal street gang.
While one of the vehicles is still at large, the Sheriff's Office's detailed post on Facebook highlights the multi-jurisdictional cooperation that led to the capture of the two individuals. The incident remains under active investigation. The exact location of the farm has not been disclosed to protect victim privacy, underscoring ongoing safety concerns among legal cannabis operators.
