New Orleans’ Utility, Cable, Telecommunications, and Technology Committee and the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee recently held a joint meeting to advance initiatives on environmental sustainability and digital infrastructure, according to council.nola.gov. The committees moved several resolutions and contracts closer to full Council approval.

According to the New Orleans City Council release, one key item was an update to Chapter 158 in the Code of Ordinances. The committees recommended a resolution to clarify procedural schedules and open public comments on proposed changes through October 17.

The committees also approved Entergy New Orleans’ (ENO) Compliance Demonstration Report for the Renewable and Clean Portfolio Standard (RCPS) for 2024. ENO has committed to net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and 100% carbon-free electric generation in New Orleans by 2050. ENO’s RCPS Compliance Plan for 2026–2028 will be open for public and stakeholder input.

On the digital side, the committees approved contract extensions with Global Solutions Group, Inc., AT&T Enterprises, LLC, and Presidio Networked Solutions to maintain cybersecurity, telecommunications, and network products.

The committees also considered two finalists for the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) advisor role: Apex Analytics with Emergent Grid Solutions, and Rebalance Energy with MG3 Energy. The selected advisor will work with the Council and ENO on DER matters.
