The New Orleans Department of Public Works is pressing on with multiple projects to enhance the city's roadways, with recent updates indicating a combination of completions and ongoing work. Progress is evident in areas targeted for safety and accessibility improvements, as well as the drivability of the City of New Orleans streets.
A key segment of the ongoing work is the DPW772 Right of Way (ROW) Improvements project, which has wrapped up enhancements along South Prieur Street, Tchoupitoulas Street, Lafayette Street, and St. Roch Avenue. With these areas now boasting improved infrastructure, attention, and machinery have been turned to Moss Street and Orleans Avenue. The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works reports one lane has already been milled on Moss Street, with more progress to follow.
Over on Orleans Avenue, work will include milling and overlaying stretches from City Park Avenue to Carrollton Avenue. In addition, joint cleaning and sealing efforts are on the itinerary, presumably to prolong roadway life and minimize maintenance needs. A recent project team survey of Old Poydras Road has informed the swale installation process, aimed at reducing water pooling and enhancing area drainage, as reported by the City of New Orleans.
The $10M Lake Terrace & Oaks Group B and C redevelopment, a FEMA-funded initiative that kicked off in July 2025, is estimated for completion by Fall 2026, barring any extreme weather setbacks, the crews' current focus is on utility drainage work along the 6200 block of Bertha Street. Roadway reconstruction is scheduled to succeed the drainage work in early September, contributing to the substantial infrastructural facelift the project promises, as detailed by the City of New Orleans.
