The hustle of business and innovation in Hickory has a moment in the spotlight as the City of Hickory Business Development Committee (BDC) rolls out its call for nominations for the 2025 Business. Well Crafted. Awards. This annual recognition program celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit that pulses through the city's streets, honoring those who fortify Hickory's economic framework and enhance the community's quality of life.
With nominations now open, the BDC is reaching out to the public to highlight local business leaders, from nascent entrepreneurs to established ventures. Recognitions will be handed out across various categories, including awards for an exceptional entrepreneur of the year and youthful visionaries under 25. Acknowledging the diverse business landscape, special categories may spotlight businesses owned by women, veterans, and those from historically underutilized backgrounds. As detailed by the City of Hickory's announcement, each distinction revolves around the city's Economic Vitality vision, which prides itself on nurturing a diversified and sustainable economy.
Eligibility for the awards requires businesses to have at least two years under their belt and a clean slate when it comes to past accolades – none having been received in the previous five years. The BDC urges industry pillars to step forward and nominate peers that echo the community's collective aspirations for growth and vitality. As local Business and Community Development Manager Dave Leonetti—who also serves as the BDC staff liaison—told the City of Hickory's press team, "Hickory is fortunate to be home to many successful businesses and inspiring entrepreneurs." He added, "The BDC is excited to offer this opportunity to recognize those in our community who share the City’s vision for growth and economic strength and strive to enhance the quality of life for Hickory citizens by engaging in business practices and activities that support that vision."
To put a deserving individual, business, or organization in the running, nominators should head over to the City's online portal and fill out the nomination form. The deadline for submissions is locked in for 5 p.m. on October 3. Post-nomination, contenders will be prompted to articulate their contributions to the Hickory's economic landscape and their significance therein. An array of their community-enhancing activities will also be requested to bolster their nomination.
