Tragedy was narrowly averted last night when two North Allegheny School District buses carrying members of a high school marching band collided on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, leading to minor injuries for six students and two adults. According to WPXI, the unfortunate incident occurred near mile marker 50 at approximately 5:45 p.m. as the buses were en route to a football game.
A witness at the scene described how a truck abruptly cut off the leading bus, prompting immediate braking that the following bus apparently could not replicate in time, leading to the crash and the buses coming to an eventual halt at the Oakmont Plum Service Plaza, where Sky 4 captured the aftermath.
The North Allegheny School District acted swiftly, reaching out to the families of those involved, and displayed a sense of gratitude for the prompt response of emergency services, band volunteers, and district personnel, in statement reported by WTAE.
