North Carolina's biotech prowess took center stage as Governor Josh Stein presided over the opening of Fujifilm Biotechnologies' new Holly Springs facility. Governor Stein underscored the significance of this expansion, which is poised to generate 1,400 jobs by 2031 and bolster the state's economy by an impressive $10 billion over the next ten years, as reported by the Governor's Office. "North Carolina is home to the future of biotech, and we welcome Fujifilm an industry leader," Stein articulated at the event.

Fujifilm has opened a new plant in Holly Springs equipped with advanced bioreactors to produce vaccines and antibodies. The facility is part of North Carolina’s growing life sciences sector, which employs over 225,000 people and contributes $88.3 billion annually to the economy.

Fujifilm has also partnered with Wake Tech to launch a biomechatronics apprenticeship program, designed to expand technical education and workforce opportunities. According to the Governor's Office, this aligns with statewide efforts to increase apprenticeships and prepare workers for high-demand jobs.

Since January, North Carolina has attracted more than $19 billion in investments and commitments for over 26,000 jobs, with biotech playing a major role in this growth. To recognize the industry’s impact, Governor Stein declared September 15–19 “Life Sciences Week” during the NC Biotech 40th Anniversary Summit. Fujifilm’s new facility adds to the state’s expanding biotechnology presence and economic development.
