
An attempted carjacking incident in Northeast D.C. has led to an arrest, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department. The event took place on Saturday evening, when a suspect allegedly attacked a person sitting inside a running vehicle at the 2000 block of West Virginia Avenue, NE. According to the MPD, the assailant forcibly opened the vehicle's door, pulled the victim out, and then attempted to take control of the car.
However, the carjacking was thwarted by two individuals who were nearby at the time of the incident. Having witnessed the assault, they intervened by extracting the attacker from the victim's seat and detaining him until the police arrived on the scene. The victim, while shaken, sustained only minor injuries during the altercation.
The suspect involved in this case has been identified as 51-year-old John Gainey from the Northeast quadrant of the city. Gainey is now facing charges for the attempted unarmed carjacking.
Responding officers from the MPD arrested Gainey, who is now being processed for the crime.
