An Oakland man, identified as 31-year-old Robert Earl Davis, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for his role in illegally trafficking firearms and possessing them as a felon, along with associated ammunition. The sentencing was determined by U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín, as documented in a report by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Throughout the trial, evidence showed that Davis engaged in the purchase and transportation of firearms from Texas to California, exploiting social media platforms such as Instagram for the sale and distribution of these weapons, according to details from a Hoodline article. A search warrant executed on December 21, 2022, unveiled a hidden firearm in his residence and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, revealing the breadth of his illegal activities, as the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported.

Davis was initially found guilty of dealing firearms without an appropriate license and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition by a federal jury. Interestingly, he was acquitted of a second count of being a felon in possession of firearms. He now also faces three years of supervised release post-prison and has been ordered to pay a $200 special assessment.

In the announcement, as noted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, United States Attorney Craig H. Missakian, along with Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Topper, spoke to the seriousness of the case. The prosecution, led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Evan Mateer and Jonah Ross and supported by Kevin Costello, Mark DiCenzo, and Amala James, stems from an investigation by the ATF, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fort Worth (TX) Police Department.
