A 14-year-old girl from Ocean View was arrested by Hawai‘i Island police last night in connection with a threat of violence at Konawaena High School. The student is accused of first-degree terroristic threatening, which is classified as a Class C felony. This followed a report from a concerned student who was not involved but alerted school authorities via email, as reported by the Hawai‘i Police Department.
According to the initial report from school administrators, Kona patrol officers were dispatched to the campus at approximately 5:29 p.m. Sunday after the email was received, and interviews with witnesses who had been present verified that the threat was made during school hours on the previous Friday; the young girl allegedly threatened to shoot three of her peers.
The case is now being handled by the Area II Juvenile Aid Section as detectives continue their investigation into the incident. The teenager was released from custody pending further investigation, and due to her minor status, her name has been withheld from public disclosure.
