
In a recent incident in Waikīkī, Honolulu police officers were involved in a confrontation that resulted in a suspect assaulting an officer. According to the Honolulu Police Department's social media post, the altercation happened yesterday morning when police responded to a call on Ena Road in the tourist-heavy district.
The male, aged 44, was identified by officers on the scene and was found to be a wanted suspect for several unrelated crimes. When informed of his arrest, the suspect made an attempt to quickly flee, leading to a scuffle where police applied physical force to subdue him. During the arrest, he managed to bite one of the officers, causing a significant wound. The injured officer then proceeded to transport themselves to a nearby hospital and was reported to be in good condition.
Following the incident, the suspect was arrested for Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, and eight counts of Misuse of 911. He was also treated at the scene for exposure to oleoresin capsicum spray, which police had used in efforts to detain him. The Honolulu Police Department has indicated that they will be seeking charges through the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.
