An Ohio mother who was the focus of an Amber Alert on accusations of abusing and torturing her 7-year-old son was arrested in Ross Township. The woman, identified as 32-year-old Tiarika D. Baymon, was found asleep in her car, with her son lying in the back seats that had been folded down, as reported by WPXI. The car was located in a secluded area near the woods on William Street, following the coordinated efforts of Ross police and the local FBI office that tracked her down.
Officers found a gun on Baymon's lap while she slept, which fell to the ground during her arrest, according to Ross Township's Deputy Chief Brian Kohlhepp. Charges laid out against Baymon include felony endangering the welfare of a child, firearms not to be carried without a license, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest, according to WPXI. The boy, found in distress, was initially taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital but later needed to be transferred to Mercy Hospital's burn unit for more specific care.
The horrific nature of the abuse was further highlighted by an Instagram post Baymon uploaded, which "actually showed the child, bound and being tortured by her," as Deputy Chief Kohlhepp highlighted in a statement detailed by WTAE. The criminal complaint against Baymon also detailed the child's account, claiming his mother hit him with a glass bottle and restrained him using belts and exercise straps. Police have been tight-lipped on additional charges, citing the ongoing investigation.
