Enrollment at The Ohio State University has seen a modest increase, rising 0.5% to 67,255 students according to the latest data from the institution's census for autumn 2025. This growth is attributed to higher numbers in undergraduate, graduate, professional, and transfer student populations.

Amid a period of competitive admissions, President of Ohio State, Walter "Ted" Carter Jr., expressed enthusiasm about the university's direction, stating, "We have incredible momentum right now, and I’m proud that Ohio State is the destination of choice for so many students and families, including many from right here in Ohio." His comment reflects a deep-seated commitment to the land-grant mission of providing affordable, quality education, a priority echoed in the university's recent scholarship initiatives. As noted by OSU's official news release, these initiatives are part of plans to further academic excellence and student access at Ohio State.

New first-year enrollment at Ohio State's Columbus campus is set at 8,210, a figure designed to balance the student population. Meanwhile, the university's regional campuses and Ohio State ATI in Wooster have enjoyed an 8.6% surge in overall enrollment, with new first-year student enrollment on these campuses jumping 15.1% from the previous year.

Ohio State is not only expanding its numbers but also its academic prestige. The incoming class demonstrates high academic achievement with 97% graduating in the top 25% of their high school classes, boasting an average ACT score of 30.6 and an SAT score of 1397. Furthermore, the university's efforts in fostering educational attainment are evident as graduate student enrollment reached a record high of 11,463.

The draw to Ohio State is undeniable, with applications topping at 88,545, a new record for the university. In a bid to sustain this growth, Ohio State has announced new scholarship programs targeting those who excel and those hailing from local communities. Notable among these is the President’s Ohio Scholarship Program, which offers full cost of attendance scholarships and an additional $5,000 for educational pursuits and academic support to Ohio students scoring a perfect ACT or SAT score. This program, coupled with Buckeye Bridge and the Regional Campus Commitment program, underscores the university's advocate for making higher education accessible.

Academic success complements the surge in enrollment, with Ohio State achieving remarkable retention rates. According to the university, a sterling 93.5% first-year retention rate places Ohio State among the top institutions both in Ohio and nationally. This figure speaks volumes about the university's ability to not only attract but also retain its students, ensuring they have the resources and support necessary for success.
