As students return to their classrooms this fall, School Resource Officer Valente from Ozaukee County is placing a special emphasis on safety; not the kind involving swing sets or scissors, but the everyday kind that helps children know who they are and where they come from. Officer Valente, assigned to Divine Savior Catholic School, is educating students on the importance of memorizing their home address, phone number, and guardians' names—vital information that could prove critical in an emergency.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office went on to extend the schoolroom walls into the homes by providing resources for families. According to a social media post, the department has created templates to help "kids to learn and memorize important phone numbers and addresses."
