The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, in collaboration with the National Weather Service of Fort Worth, TX, has alerted Dallas residents to prepare for an Ozone Action Day scheduled for Wednesday, September 10. According to the National Weather Service, sunny skies are expected to dominate the week with temperatures consistently hovering around the mid-90s.

However, amidst the clear weather, an air quality concern has been issued. Trapped under the sun's relentless gaze, Dallas is anticipated to experience elevated levels of ozone air pollution. While the weather forecast from the National Weather Service promises a week of uninterrupted sunshine, it is this very clarity that contributes to the likelihood of increased ozone formation.

The TCEQ recommends citizens take proactive measures to curb ozone production, such as carpooling, cycling, or even simple acts such as bringing lunch to work to avoid drive-through emissions. The forecasted calm winds at around 5 mph throughout the weekend do little to disperse the pollutants, making personal contributions to pollution reduction all the more critical during these still days.

As residents seek reprieve from the encroaching heat, the alert emphasizes the individual's role in pollution mitigation. "You can help prevent ozone pollution by sharing a ride, walking, riding a bicycle, taking your lunch to work, avoiding drive-through lanes, conserving energy, and keeping your vehicle properly tuned," advises the National Weather Service to help lower pollutants, as most nights are expected to remain clear with lows in the low 70s, as indicated in the weather report.
