A tragic incident unfolded on Long Island as a 63-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a school bus while walking in Floral Park.
The collision occurred Wednesday morning around 8 a.m., according to ABC7NY. Witnesses reported that the man was in the crosswalk on Plainfield Avenue, the bus was turning left onto Plainfield from Magnolia Avenue, when the incident took place. The driver, a 69-year-old man, remained at the scene. At the time of the accident, there were no children on the bus.
Further details were provided by News12 Long Island, indicating that the bus was making its turn off of Woodbine Court when it struck the pedestrian. After the collision, the victim was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
As of now, the identity of the victim, a resident of Floral Park, has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The bus driver's cooperation with law enforcement has been noted, however, it remains unclear if charges will be filed in relation to the incident. Police investigations are ongoing and authorities have yet to release additional information regarding the circumstances of the fatal crash.
