A recent case of animal cruelty has prompted PETA to offer a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for tying up a dog and abandoning it on the side of a road in Hillsborough County. The dog, a small tan and white 2-year-old believed to be a miniature pinscher and chihuahua mix, was found near G-7 Ranch Road and Stephens Road in Ruskin, as reported by WFLA.

Having managed to get his front legs free, the dog pulled himself down the road leaving cuts and scrapes on his back legs, until finding his way to a nearby residence. The horrific image of his binding and subsequent dragging paints a grim picture of the cruelty inflicted upon him. The homeowner who discovered the dog called the authorities, leading to prompt medical care at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center for the dog’s injuries, FOX 13 detailed.

In a statement obtained by WFLA, PETA Vice President Heather Carlson said, "This dog depended on someone to keep him safe, but was instead tied up and discarded on the side of the road like trash, and it’s only thanks to his remarkable resolve that he didn’t die there." She went on to urge anyone with information about this atrocious act to come forward before the person responsible inflicts harm on another innocent being.

The actions taken on this dog reflect broader concerns about repeat offenses and community risk. Suspecting that the abuser may be a threat to other animals, PETA, alongside local officials, is taking the matter gravely serious in tracking down the perpetrator. Tampa's Tampa Free Press echoed these concerns, highlighting the pattern often seen in individuals who perpetrate animal cruelty.

Community members with any leads or information are strongly encouraged to reach out to Hillsborough County Animal Control by calling (813) 744-5660. Hillsborough County had previously stated they would also offer a reward through Crime Stoppers for any information that could lead to the responsible party.
