Phoenix Police have arrested 24-year-old Luis Gustavo Prudente Tapia in connection with a violent assault and sexual attack on a woman last month. Tapia faces charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.

Police say the incident occurred on August 14 near 46th Street and Oak Street. The victim was found with severe injuries and linked to Tapia through DNA evidence and video surveillance. According to 13 News, Tapia told investigators he initially had consensual sex with the victim but then attacked her as she tried to reclaim money he had given her.

Evidence at the scene included used condoms, men’s shorts, and blood indicating the victim had been dragged. Roommates told police Tapia returned to their apartment after the incident and one recalled hearing a disturbance and seeing what appeared to be a person in the alley. This information helped detectives identify Tapia as a suspect.

Tapia has been booked into jail and awaits his next court date. The victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home from multiple injuries.
