Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell revealed that Eduardo Galindo-Ramirez has been sentenced to 18.5 years in prison after his guilty plea to one count of Second-Degree Murder. This decision comes after an investigation into the brutal killing of Andrea Casarubias Romero in May of 2024, where she suffered more than thirty stab wounds, as reported by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Phoenix Police followed a blood trail to Galindo-Ramirez’s apartment near Indian School Road and 27th Avenue, where they found Romero’s body. After the killing, Galindo-Ramirez fled to Mexico. He was later persuaded by the victim’s brother, during a phone call, to return to the U.S. and surrender, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
The case, which has been followed closely by layers of community and police work, shed light on the gap between a monstrous act and its legal repercussions. "At no point did this defendant show any regard for Andrea’s life," County Attorney Rachel Mitchell stated. "He attempted to wash himself clean of his actions, but thanks to the diligent work of the Phoenix Police Department and the perseverance of her family, he was brought to justice," Mitchell told the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
