A high-speed chase in Pinal County escalated into a deputy-involved shooting late Thursday night when a driver, later identified as Kenneth Etter, aged 33, reportedly attempted to assault a law enforcement officer with his vehicle. As reported by ABC15, the pursuit began after the Arizona Department of Public Safety attempted to stop a truck on Pinal Avenue near Rodeo Road for speeding and running a red light around 10:30 p.m.; however, the driver eluded capture and continued driving recklessly through the area.
The chase eventually led deputies into a desert area near Bisnaga Street and Pinal Avenue where, during an attempt to evade arrest, Etter's actions were perceived as a direct threat to the deputies present, This led to one Pinal County deputy discharging his weapon and injuring Etter stated AZ Family. Etter was subsequently hospitalized for his injuries and, after being released from medical care, was booked into Pinal County jail with no serious injuries reported among the law enforcement officers involved.
This incident marks the latest in a series of law enforcement-related shootings in Arizona, with it being the 30th outside of Maricopa County and the 55th overall in the state this year. The rise in such encounters has drawn attention to the frequency and nature of confrontational engagements between suspects and the police.
