Yesterday afternoon in Homewood North, a neighborhood seized again by the rattling chain of violence, Pittsburgh authorities responded to a grim scene. An adult male victim, bloodied and wounded, was discovered by Zone 5 police officers on the 7600 block of Baxter Street, having suffered a knife attack to his neck.
The incident, which uncloaked the persistent specter of crime in Pittsburgh streets, left the victim in critical condition, though his status has since been updated to stable after prompt medical attention, as per a statement from the City of Pittsburgh news release.
The details of the assault came to light as the victim, who is staying anonymous during the investigation, shared what happened. He was standing still when a man approached, clearly trying to get money from him. The victim gave him some cash to avoid trouble, but the attacker stabbed him anyway and quickly ran off.
The Mobile Crime Unit has searched the area for evidence, and detectives from Zone 5 are now handling the case.
