The City of Englewood has announced that the Oxford Avenue Pedestrian Bridge project will advance with necessary construction work, involving the installation of a crucial element known as a caisson under Pier 2, right in the median.
According to the City of Englewood, this step requires lane closures that will impact traffic flow. Specifically, the inside (left) lanes going both eastbound and westbound will be temporarily inaccessible from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day of the work. Those needing to travel those directions will have to quickly adjust, as the outside (right) lanes will remain the only open options during those times. But watch out, occasional stops up to 10 minutes could happen, all to make way for moving equipment.
No need to worry if you're on foot or need to access local businesses, though. The City has confirmed that all sidewalks, side streets, and driveways will keep their doors open for pedestrian traffic and local commerce, ensuring that accessibility remains for those not behind the wheel.
For those who would rather skip the traffic dance around construction zones, there's an alternative. City officials are suggesting using Hampden Avenue as an alternate route. Diversions will probably save you some potential gridlock frustration, so it might be a good call to significantly consider the detour for your mid-week travel plans.
