A tragic multi-vehicle collision on US-23 in Ann Arbor Township has resulted in the death of a 49-year-old Plymouth woman and caused considerable disruptions. The crash occurred last Friday, when a semi-truck crossing the median on northbound US-23 near Pontiac Trail collided with three vehicles, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
Following the accident, US-23 was closed for extended hours between Nixon Road and Pontiac Trail, affecting thousands of commuters; the freeway has since been reopened, witnesses described the incident as violent with "a lot of dirt and debris," conveyed Harold Hosking, a motorist who narrowly avoided the crash and his narrative was corroborated by aerial footage obtained by Chopper 7 showing a semi-truck allegedly dragging an SUV into the woods. Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the semi-truck's loss of control. Minor injuries were reported among others involved in the incident, which led to a massive traffic jam impacting the Washtenaw County area; one passenger, according to CBS News Detroit, referred to the detour via territorial roads as a mess, while another local, Janet Kreger, highlighted the roadway's hazardous curve and high-speed traffic that frequently lead to accidents.
