A somber discovery in a Queens parking lot has prompted a police investigation after a human skull and other skeletal remains were found yesterday afternoon. According to ABC7NY, a survey crew came across the remains including a male human skull, a leg bone, and a hip bone at 134-01 20th Avenue in Flushing, the area surrounded by a chain fence, and in close proximity to retail giants like Target and ShopRite.
The crew stumbled upon the skeletal remains before 4 p.m., and they promptly notified authorities about their find. The timeline and the reasons behind the remains' presence in this commercial hub remain undetermined, as investigators are working to piece together how long the bones may have been there, and whether this incident involves any criminal activity. The Gothamist reported that the skeletal pieces included a skull legs, and a hip bone, found among the wooden detritus of an unassuming parking lot on 20th Avenue near 132nd Street, in College Point.
The NYPD, while confirming the discovery as likely belonging to a human, has yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased or the cause of death. This investigation follows closely on the heels of another grim find in Queens, where wrapped human remains were uncovered by city sanitation workers last week in Idlewild Park. However, officials have not implied any connection between the two disturbing finds at this time.
The discovery of human remains in Flushing is under investigation by the medical examiner’s office. Authorities are examining the remains to determine their origin and whether any criminal activity was involved.
The NYPD has asked the public to provide any information that could help with the investigation.
