The individual who tragically lost his life in a crash on the I-5 has been identified, according to a recent update from the Portland Police Bureau. Jahi Moody, 51, from Portland, was the driver involved in the accident last Saturday night. Portland officials disclosed that Moody's family has been duly notified of the unfortunate incident.
The sequence of events leading to Moody's death began on North Rosa Parks Way, with Portland Police attempting a traffic stop at approximately 11:00 p.m. Officers from the North Precinct aimed to pull over Moody's vehicle, only for him to make an ill-fated decision to flee, as detailed by the Portland Police Bureau. However, police did not give chase. In a tragic turn, Moody ended up crossing the I-5 southbound before being struck in the northbound lanes.
First responders found the situation irreversible, with Moody suffering fatal injuries. The driver who collided with Moody remained at the scene, cooperating fully with law enforcement officials, as per the Portland Police Bureau. As the Portland Police Bureau's Major Crash Team (MCT) conducts a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash, they are seeking any information from witnesses who might have seen the tragic incident unfold.
During the MCT investigation, both directions of I-5 near the crash site were temporarily closed, causing major traffic disruptions. Southbound traffic was diverted between North Lombard Street and North Killingsworth Street, while northbound lanes were shut down from North Killingsworth Street to North Rosa Parks Way. The closures allowed investigators to thoroughly examine the scene. Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact the PPB Traffic Investigations Unit through the department’s crime tips email.
