An officer with the Prince George's County Police Department was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle accident yesterday evening. According to WUSA9, emergency responders arrived at the scene near the intersection of Whitfield Chapel Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Lanham around 8:40 p.m. to attend to the incident.
The Prince George's County Fire Department (PGFD) was called out to quickly respond to reports of the accident involving a PGPD cruiser. Members worked to secure the scene and attend to those injured, as stated by DC News Now. The officer was taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, a relief given the potential gravity of such collisions.
There were a total of three individuals involved in the crash, including the officer. "There were also two civilians involved," was reported by WJLA. One of the individuals had to be extricated from their vehicle by emergency crews, underscoring the severity of the incident.
As the officer continues to recover, the circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be fully disclosed. Investigation into the causes of the incident is ongoing.
