The North Carolina State Board of Elections has released provisional ballot figures for Tuesday, primary in Forsyth, Lee, and Mecklenburg counties. The report, available in PDF format on the State Board’s website, breaks down provisional ballots by voting method as required by N.C.G.S. § 163-166.11(5).
According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections website, provisional ballots are used for voters whose eligibility is in question, such as those missing from voter rolls. Voters without a photo ID can submit a Photo ID Exception Form or present their ID to their county board of elections by the deadline, which for this primary was noon today. The State Board notes that ballots are counted unless the county board unanimously determines the information is false.
County boards review provisional ballots after the election to determine validity. Eligible ballots are included in the official count, while partially eligible ballots are counted accordingly.
Unofficial results are available on the Election Results Dashboard. Certified results will be released after the county canvass, scheduled for Tuesday next week at 11 a.m.
