In a recent turn of events at a local Sephora in Alhambra, a routine shoplifting incident has escalated to a grand theft case. The Alhambra Police Department reported on their Facebook page that a woman, identified as Yirla Rodriguez of Rosemead, CA, was apprehended for secreting away merchandise at the beauty retailer. According to the Alhambra Police Department, while appearing to engage in a legitimate transaction, she covertly stashed over 40 items valued at more than $2,400 into her bag.
The suspect seemingly blended in by purchasing a single lipstick, but her broader intentions were thwarted as officers were called to the scene. The Alhambra Police Department relayed that this wasn't Rodriguez's first attempt at the clandestine shopping strategy. During the arrest, she confided to the officers, claiming that her budget would have "allowed for it," and that she had $500 ready on her card.
The Alhambra Police Department stated on social media: “She paid for one lipstick and thought the rest was complimentary. Bestie, this isn’t buy one, steal 40 free.” Rodriguez was subsequently booked at APD Jail following her arrest.
