An 18-year-old Saint Leonard, MD man is in custody on no bond after being linked to a spree of violent crimes in Montgomery County. Joseph Tyler Jhingory IV faces a litany of charges, including home invasion, armed robbery, and assault, according to details released by the Montgomery County Police Department.

Authorities recounted a chilling series of events beginning on December 1, 2023, with a Rockville home invasion where the perpetrator sexually assaulted a woman and stole a vehicle. The crime wave continued into 2024 with additional robberies and thefts. Investigations pointed toward Jhingory IV, who was identified and charged for the crimes stretching as far back as last December. In one notable incident on February 9, the young man is accused of burglarizing two homes in Bethesda before targeting a gas station on Wisconsin Avenue.

Detectives pieced together the suspect's alleged activities, which included an attempted robbery at a 7-Eleven parking lot and a brief but unauthorized visit to Andrews Air Force Base, where he is said to have stolen a car. Jhingory IV's run came to an end following a crash during a pursuit by Anne Arundel Police. Despite a short-lived escape, he was arrested but momentarily slipped through the cracks after being released by military police.

On July 10, 2024, officers responded to another burglary at a Potomac home, resulting in the theft of a 2014 Lexus, which was later found in a field. The field's location in Calvert County became a significant clue, as it had been the dumping ground for other stolen vehicles. This discovery helped solidify the connection between the abandoned vehicles and Jhingory IV.

The suspect was already detained at a Maryland juvenile facility on separate charges before being transferred to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. It was there, on August 27, 2025, that he was formally served with warrants for his alleged involvement in the Montgomery County offenses. As Jhingory IV faces justice, the community hopes for closure in the wake of the brazen crime spree.
