Zeroing in on enforcement, or the lack thereof, Alderete Gavito argued for steeper fees to be levied against absentee property owners who let their buildings fall into decay. Such neglect not only mars the landscape but also imposes an undue burden on the community fabric. "We need to update our policies that motivate habitual bad actors to take responsibility," Alderete Gavito told the City of San Antonio news portal. "Our city deserves private partners that contribute to the growth and excellence of our communities—not ones who treat City services as just a cost of doing business."

With community members voicing concerns about speeding, one of the most common grievances, Alderete Gavito is pressing for traffic fines to better reflect the times. These penalties have long since lost their sting due to inflation; suggesting that aligning fines with the current cost of living standards will not just bring back the deterrent but solidify it.
"Every day, we hear from residents about problems that undermine safety and quality of life in our neighborhoods—from reckless driving to neglected properties," Alderete Gavito pinpointed on the City of San Antonio.
