This information was relayed by the sheriff's department, which described the initiative, dubbed "Operation Consequences," as a targeted response to rising concerns over safety and quality of life within the county. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department, the operation, which spanned from September 1 to September 7, involved multiple agencies and aimed at gang suppression and narcotics control.
The action-filled week saw investigators and deputies serving search warrants, patrolling, and engaging with known gang members and individuals barred from owning guns. As a direct result of their efforts, Operation Consequences netted over four pounds of methamphetamine and two firearms, in addition to the equipment for creating unregistered "ghost guns." Coincidentally, with the introduction of California's Proposition 36—informally known as "The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act"—the sweep made use of the new laws to bring about enhanced sentencing opportunities, as was applied in one of the cases.
