Yesterday afternoon's routine traffic flow was interrupted at Corby and Bellevue avenues after an alleged DUI incident that evolved into a drug possession bust, causing both roadways to be shut down for hours. Santa Rosa Police reported multiple calls pouring in around 2:45 pm, alerting them to the vehicle collision scene. As showcased in a social media post from the department, arriving officers discovered the driver of a white Saturn sedan exhibiting signs of impairment.
During the investigation that ensued, the suspect, Miguel Angel Martinez, a 39-year-old local, carried on under the impression that narcotics paraphernalia and controlled substances found in his possession were just another part of his life conditioned by probation and prior misdemeanors. Relying on observed objective signs, an SRPD DUI/Accident Investigator determined that Martinez was indeed under the influence of a drug. In addition to the DUI charge, Martinez was hit with possession of a controlled substance, a probation violation, and an outstanding warrant.
Not only did the incident spell trouble for the suspect, but also for the occupants of the other involved vehicle, a gray Volkswagen Golf, whose journey was cut short by the collision. The adult men in the Golf found themselves in the hospital, treated for minor injuries, following the event. As Santa Rosa Police worked the scene, local traffic was pinched off Corby Avenue between 2:45 pm and reopening at 5:15 pm.
