Tragedy struck on I-35 this past Tuesday when a man from Schertz lost his life in a horrific car accident, law enforcement officials report. The New Braunfels Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene near the 2900 block of the northbound lanes after a silver Ford Fusion lost control and rolled over. Despite immediate attempts at life-saving measures by first responders, the 34-year old driver was pronounced dead at the scene, a statement from the New Braunfels Police Department confirmed.
The preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident, as detailed by the New Braunfels Police Department, suggests that the Ford Fusion, was moving at high speed and erratically maneuvering through traffic. The vehicle then reportedly sideswiped a blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and the driver overcorrected, leading to the fatal rollover. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Fusion was not wearing his seatbelt, which led to his ejection from the car upon impact.
As a result of the accident, the northbound section of I-35 where the accident occurred was closed for an extended period, approximately 3½ hours. This closure was necessary to allow for cleanup and to enable the NBPD Traffic Unit to conduct an accident reconstruction investigation. No other individuals were injured in the crash and no charges are expected to be filed in relation to the incident, officials indicated.
