The City of Seattle is shining a spotlight on the vital but often behind-the-scenes work of those serving on its 73 Boards and Commissions. These more than 1,000 volunteers, who generously donate their expertise and diverse perspectives to shape the city's policies, are eligible for some well-deserved recognition through the Civic Engagement Recognition Awards.
According to the Seattle Building Connections blog, citizens are encouraged to "Complete the nomination form by September 30, 2025,” to honor these dedicated individuals. It's a chance for subject matter experts who have worked tirelessly to ensure their voices—and the voices of their communities—are heard, to finally be recognized. This initiative is set to not only celebrate this commitment but also to potentially inspire more Seattleites to actively engage in the civic process.
The final decision will not be made lightly. Finalists in each category will be carefully selected and announced in the fall season. The ultimate winners will be honored at the Boards and Commissions Appreciation Reception. This event, graciously hosted by the Office of the City Clerk on behalf of the Mayor and Seattle City Council, does not simply commend individual successes but collectively illuminates the impact of civic engagement on the city's fabric.
If you know someone who fits the bill, who has dedicated countless hours to nurturing Seattle's growth and prosperity, now is the time to put them forward. Let's take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge what often goes unsung—the work, the passion, and the vision that these board and commission members contribute to bettering Seattle. Information on the awards and the nomination process can be found on the Building Connections Seattle website.
