The Metropolitan Police Department recently confirmed the arrest of a second suspect in relation to the homicide that transpired on 21st Street, Northeast back in May. The authorities located and apprehended 42-year-old Randall Mack of Northeast on Tuesday, September 2. Mack faces charges for First Degree Murder While Armed (Felony Murder), directly linking him to the death of 61-year-old Steven Stewart, as reported by the MPD's official news release.
The incident unfolded on the afternoon of May 2, when Fifth District officers were dispatched to an apartment building on the 600 block of 21st Street following a shooting report. They discovered Stewart, the victim, fatally wounded by gunshot. Despite emergency services promptly arriving at the scene, Stewart was to tragically not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead by DC Fire and EMS personnel. This narrative aligns with the details outlined by authorities.
A first suspect, Phillip Palmer, also from Northeast and aged 62, was arrested earlier on August 22. A D.C. Superior Court Grand Jury indictment led to charges of First Degree Murder While Armed (Felony Murder) against Palmer. With the arrest of Mack, the police now have both suspects in custody in connection with Stewart's death. The latest development in this ongoing investigation was detailed in the MPD's news release and highlights an ongoing commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.
