
The Senate committee studying the impact of social media and artificial intelligence on children and platform privacy protection will hold its second hearing on September 17. The bipartisan committee, co-chaired by Dem Sen. Sally Harrell and GOP Sen. Shawn Still, will delve into the nuances of online protections and ponder state policies for securing safer digital spaces for the younger folk, as reported by Senate Press News.
The committee, created under Senate Resolution 431, is tasked with examining risks tied to children’s use of social media, gaming, and artificial intelligence, while also developing strategies to protect young users. The meeting will take place at 1:00 p.m. on September 17 in room 450 of the State Capitol. It is open to the public and will also be livestreamed on the Senate’s website.
At its first meeting, the committee examined the harmful effects online platforms can have on children, setting the stage for the upcoming session focused on potential state policies to better protect young users.
